Jack Warren is a versatile young musician fluent on all saxophones as well as flute and clarinet. Jack is a session player, live performer, arranger, composer, teacher, and a strong asset to anything needing winds. He began playing the saxophone at age 10 and played many instruments through his middle and high school years. During this time he performed with many different school groups, from musical theater to marching band to chamber orchestra, as well as performing with the South Carolina All-State Jazz Band and professional groups in his hometown of Spartanburg, South Carolina. As he entered high school he began to arrange and compose for chamber winds, concert and jazz band, and his jazz combo that performed steadily while he lived in Spartanburg.
In 2018 Jack moved to Nashville, Tennessee to study at Belmont University. During his time at Belmont, Jack studied saxophone with Dr. Alex Graham and performed with numerous school ensembles, spending all 4 years in Jazz Band 1 and the Jazz Combos, as well as the Wind Ensemble. He took on an emphasis in Composition and Arranging and had his works performed by school ensembles and professional groups. He recorded and performed professionally through his college career, playing for artists, bands, and pit orchestras. In the summers of 2021 and 2022 he performed nightly at Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island as part of the Grand Hotel Orchestra. He held a weekly jazz residency through his final semester of college and graduated with a BM in the spring of 2022.
Currently, Jack is performing, recording, arranging, and teaching professionally in the Nashville area. Teaching saxophone, flute, and clarinet, Jack takes time to make sure each student enjoys achieving their very best on their instrument. He has experience in both private and school teaching in all grade levels and teaches 1 on 1, in groups, and in full sections in a wide variety of styles. He plays sax and arranges for The PitchPockets, a soul-pop group breaking into the Nashville scene, as well as with many other bands and artists. He is involved with the Pitch Music, a non-profit artist development organization centered on artistic integrity without compromise. He can be heard weekly at the Pitch Meeting as an integral member of the Pitch Horns, playing in venues from bars to concert halls to the Bonaroo Music & Arts Festival.
Jack is an in-demand freelance musician, playing weddings, corporate events, religious ceremonies, musical theater performances, festivals, and anywhere else he may be needed. His ability to contract horn players and arrange parts allows him to provide a consistent, quality horn section sound tailored to the specific needs of the client. Along with writing for winds, Jack is a well-rounded instrumental composer and arranger, writing for strings, orchestras, combos, and big bands in a wide variety of styles. Whether it’s performance, recording, writing, or teaching, Jack provides a crucial resource in any musical endeavor.
